CBDT Chairman Nitin Gupta announced that the department has disposed of 62,000 tax appeals and will now focus on resolving high-value demands and old appeals. The pace of disposal is expected to pick up with the availability of video conferencing and operational Joint Commissioners of Income-tax (Appeals). The total quantum of disputed direct tax demands stands at Rs 20 lakh crore.
